Description:
Obverse
Born in Corsica on August 15, 1769, Napoleon I, or Napoleon Bonaparte, was the first member of his family to become a professional soldier. After fighting campaigns in southern Europe, Napoleon left the army determined to save France. In Paris, he joined a conspiracy group and staged a successful coup d'etat on November 9 and 10, 1799. Under the new regime's constitution, Napoleon had almost dictatorial powers. Bold and fearless, Napoleon launched an invasion of Russia in 1812 that ended with his downfall.
