Barbary macaque and Gibraltar candytuft, denomination. The famous monkey (Macaca sylvanus) originates fron the African Atlas mountains and was probably brought to Gibraltar 1000 yrs ago by the moors. The candytuft (Iberis gibraltarica) is the national flower of the Rock.
