Obverse
The two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ДВА РУБЛЯ 1996 г.» (TWO RUBLES 1996), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the mint trademark and the fine metal content.
Reverse
The portrait of Fedor Dostoyevsky, to the left above - a view of several churches, below - the inscription in six lines "КРАСОТА СПАСЕТ МИР" (BEAUTY WILL SAVE THE WORLD), and a fragment of Raphael's painting Sistine Madonna, under them - a pair of shackles, to the right - two dates "1821" and "1881". At the bottom - the writer's facsimile signature.
