Obverse
The symbol that summarizes the characteristics of the San Marino sovereignty consists of a lion's face from whose mouths emerge the branches which join at the top. The center includes the three towers topped by feathers, covered by a roof, but no blackbirds as they were represented in ancient times. The set was borrowed from an old coat of arms, perhaps contemporary with the time in which the defensive walls were built and approved; this coat of arms is still on the facade of an ancient building that was common in the era of the Domus Magna. Surrounding the composition of the legend:
REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO.
according to reports the motto
LIBERTAS.
Reverse
There is reproduced in its fullest and meaningful perspective view the SECOND TOWER or Cesta that San Marino built to extend and complement their defenses.
