Obverse
On the coin obverse above there is placed the inscription: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine), in the middle of which there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine, a conventionalized composition: the distribution function of electrons and ions in the anisometric plasma against the background of the sun, below there are the inscriptions: 2 ГРИВНІ/ 2008 (2 Hryvnia/2008) and the Mint logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse
On the coin reverse there is depicted a portrait of Lev Landau and there are placed the inscriptions: ЛЕВ ЛАНДАУ (Leo Landau) (on the left), 1908 – 1968 (on the right)
